March 02, 2015 / Amritha Roser
March is National Nutrition Month. National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education campaign created by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The theme for 2015 encourages everyone to “bite into a healthy lifestyle” to reduce chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease. The leading causes of these conditions are largely within our control because they result mostly from what we do or do not do every day. There is abundant evidence that indicates eating healthy, being active, maintaining a healthy weight and not smoking can reduce the risk of all chronic diseases by 80 percent, and the risk of developing diabetes alone by as much as 93 percent. National Nutrition Month reminds us to give ourselves the gift of good health by adopting a healthy lifestyle to improve any existing health conditions and to reduce the chances of developing any chronic diseases.
