Food Day is a day of action intended to encourage Americans to eat healthy, sustainable food and advocate for smarter food policies. The typical American diet promotes health problems, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, environmental pollution, and poor working conditions for individuals that harvest, process and prepare food. Food Day, spearheaded by Michael F. Jacobson, the Executive Director of Center for Science in the Public Interest, chaired by Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) and advised by a board of leading experts, aim to do the following:
