Live Healthier, Stronger & Longer

Since 1963, the United States has been celebrating May as Older Americans Month, which is dedicated to recognizing the seniors of our communities. Here at Molina, we are happy to honor the lives of our members. No matter what age you are, these useful tips can help you live a longer, healthier life.

Communicate With Your Doctor

Be proactive about your health! Visit your doctor regularly and have at least one check-up each year so you can identify and treat any health conditions. For a useful list of scheduled checkups visit the checkup schedules webpage.

Drink More Water

Cleanse and hydrate your body by drinking water and lots of it. In addition to helping you lose weight and boosting your metabolism, water also keeps your body temperature normal and rids it of waste. While the amount you should drink can depend on your height, weight and size, adults can need up to 4 liters per day.

Eat Less (and Eat Slowly)

Americans tend to eat too fast and consume too many calories before realizing they’re full. Eating more slowly helps you feel full faster and helps you avoid overeating, which can lead to obesity and other health conditions. A 2008 study at St. Louis University showed that eating fewer calories decreased the production of a hormone that slows metabolism and speeds aging.

Make sure you’re consuming a balanced diet with fruits and vegetables and eating enough protein, which improves your body’s healing ability.


Get up and get out! Exercise strengthens your heart, your muscles, your bones and even your mind. A National Cancer Institute study revealed that exercise can extend your life by as much as 4.5 years.

Stand Up

In America, 50-70% of people spend at least six hours sitting every day (Mayo Clinic). A sedentary lifestyle can shorten your lifespan, whether spent in front of the TV, at work or in the car. Too much sitting is also associated with other conditions such as heart disease, some cancers and type 2 diabetes.Good news though - a national health study found that cutting sitting time in half would increase life expectancy by as much as 2 years!

So reduce the risk of “sitting disease” and increase your life expectancy by taking standing breaks at work, walking while on the phone or exercising while watching TV!

Use Sun Protection

Protect yourself from sun’s dangerous rays by wearing a hat or using an umbrella, especially as the weather gets warmer. It’s important to always apply sunscreen - on your face and the rest of your body - with an SPF of at least 30 when you’re exposed to the sun. Keeping your skin protected will help ward off skin cancer as well as wrinkles you can get from too much fun in the sun!
